Now most phone manufacturers provide a feature called RAM expansion(Memory Extension in HyperOS) and even add it in the marketing materials. For those who are not familiar RAM expansion uses a portion of your phone storage to offload content from RAM to free up space. This feature also called virtual memory is available in desktop OSs like Windows and Linux.
Is HyperOS Memory Extension useful?
Whether this feature is useful or not is up for debate especially if you are having a RAM size of 6GB or above. In my personal experience when I had my first Android smartphone, ZTE Blade in 2012, which had a partly 256MB enabling memory extension through custom ROM(technically swap space) had made a significant difference.
So if your smartphone has 4GB for normal users and 6GB for users HyperOS can move less priority apps to phone memory to make space for higher priority apps when memory is full. In such low memory instances the memory extension should be useful. For those having 8GB or above based on your usage habits and if you find apps are getting closed in the background you can try enabling memory extension.
If you are not facing any issues there is a counter argument that memory extension can reduce the life of phone storage due to continuous usage however as of no such complaints are there.
So in conclusion keeping it enabled will be harmless if you have more memory and useful if you have less memory.
How to enable or disable Memory Extension
Step 1:Go to settings and select Additional Settings
Step 2: Scroll down and select Memory Extension
Step 3: Select off to disable memory expansion else select a memory size to enable. Changing this setting will cause your phone to restart.\
