Gestures are useful shortcuts that can be used for easy access to an application or performing a particular action. Each phone manufacturer integrates its own set of shortcuts and Xiaomi's HyperOS also has a set of useful gestures.

These gestures are either activated through physical keys or through touchscreen gestures. Below you can see all the useful gestures available with HyperOS.
1. Navigation gestures
These are the gestures you can expect from any Android smartphone if you have enabled gesture based navigation. In HyperOS these gestures will work only for the default launchers.
To enable the gestures go to setting and search for system navigation and select Gestures for system navigation type. You can see useful gesture demos below to make you get used to this. Basically four main gestures are available,
- Homescreen: Swipe up from bottom of the screen to get to the homescreen from any application
- Recents: Swipe up from the bottom of screen but wait and don't let go to see the recent applications windows
- Go Back: Swipe from either sides of the screen inwards to go the previous page
- Quick Switch: Swipe left or right from the bottom of the screen to quickly move between the applications.
2. Floating window and split screen gestures
In HyperOS you can easily make an app in floating windows mode or splitscreen mode. For this go to recents app menu as per the previous step and select the two squares for splitscreen or the highlighted one for floating windows. Please note this will require require default launcher.
Floating window gestures
- Drag from bottom of the screen to make it fullscreen
- Press the three dots at the top to close
Splitscreen window gestures
- Press the middle line to resize
- Press the three dots to close a window
3. Screenshot gestures
The following gestures you can use,
- Drag anywhere with three finger for full screen shot
- Drag with three fingers and hold for partial screenshot
- Another option is to press volume + power key
4. Power button shortcuts
We can assign multiple gesture shortcuts to power button by going to settings and searching for Gesture shortcuts. We can assign following shortcuts,
- Camera Gesture
- Google Assistant Gesture
- Torch Gesture
5. Double tap to turn screen off or on
Go to Lockscreen options in settings and you can enable the option to double tap to turn screen on or off.
6. Gestures to open Notification bar or quick settings
A must remember shortcut where swiping on the homescreen from left opens the notification bar and swiping down on the right opens the quick settings.
7. Fingerprint gestures
Pressing and holding the fingerprint icon will open few shortcuts for searching, qr code etc. I feel the feature needs a major improvement with customization options
8. Volume key shortcuts
Go to Lockscreen option in settings and you can enable using volume key to turn on Camera.
9. Side tool box
Searching for side tool box will bring up op side toolbox menu which has the following
- Sidebar for easy opening of floating windows
- Gamebar for game customizations
- Call toolbox for beautify, AI transcribing and more

11.Quickball
You can enable quickball by searching for it from settings and you can assign a wide variety of actions to it like settings shortcut or app shortcuts. By default you call it from dragging the arrow from the right.
