Unlocking the bootloader is the first step for installing custom roms like the Xiaomi EU roms which provides new features including those released for exclusively for Chinese roms and even better performance.
Please note that before proceeding backup your important data as unlocking your device will remove all data in the phone.
Xiaomi has made it simple for getting your HyperOS device unlocked if you are holding a global device. Please refer this article to know the requirements HyperOS who can get permission to unlock bootloader
Now let us see step by step what is required to get your device bootloader unlocked in this article.
Step 1: The first thing you need is the Xiaomi Community application (Google Play |Alternate Link 1, 2) and install into your phone.
Step 2: Login to the app using your Xiaomi account the same one used to register your device. Once logged in select the Me section at the bottom.
Step 3: Next select the option Unlock bootloader.
Step 4: Click the Apply for unlocking button at the button. Make sure your account is at least 30 days old.
There is a quota system and if you see a messgae "Application quota limit reached", you have to try next day Beijing time.
Step 5: After a few days the unlock bootloader page will you confirmation that your bootloader has confirmed and now you have to go to your phone and enable developer options. You can read the following article to know how to do that HyperOS how to enable developer options.
Step 6: Once inside the developer options make sure to enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging.
Step 7: Go to Mi Unlock status and login to your Xiaomi account you have used to register the device and apply for unlocking.
Step 8: Next download the Mi Unlock utility in your PC from this link
Step 9: Unzip the setup file and start the application
Step 10: Turn off your phone and power on while pressing volume down button to enter into the fastboot mode. Your device will be detected and you can unlock your bootloader now.
