Xiaomi has finally brought some clarity on what are the rules for getting your HyperOS smartphone unlocked. As you know unlocking your smartphones allows you to install custom roms created by the community which can provide new features or a Google Pixel like clean experience. This is only recommended for advanced users and can cause apps like payment and banking applications to stop working which has workarounds but you may need to research on that.
The following rules are for global devices only which means rules may be different for devices purchased from China.
- The device should be a global device and you should have a non Chinese Xiaomi account
- You shouldn't have crossed the limit of three device unlocks per year from your account. If you have only unlocked two or less with your account you can proceed
- You need to have an account with Xiaomi community(Play store link) but unlike the earlier report of having a level 5 community account you only need a level 1 account which you will get when you join. Just remember that account should 30 days old.
So if you satisfy the above conditions you are ready to unlock your HyperOS device and explore the world of custom roms.
